sc - single crochet (dc or double crochet in UK)
sl - slip

Pattern Notes

This piece is worked as a spiral, not in concentric rings, so DO NOT JOIN. Insert a st marker into the top of the last st of the rnd and move it to the new last st at the end of each rnd.

To carry tail: Lay tail over top of sts being worked into, then sc across as usual, encasing carried tail between sts. If done correctly, carried tail will not be visible from front or back of work.

With tapestry crochet, one yarn is single crocheted, while another is carried. To do a tapestry crochet stitch, colours are switched while 2 loops are still on the hook; yarn over with the next colour and pull it through the loops to prepare for the tapestry crochet stitch.

Rnd 1: With CA yarn, make a slip knot (leaving an 8 inch tail [20cm]), then ch 4 sts, sl st in first ch to form a ring. Begin to carry CB and the CA tail and sc 5 sts loosely into ring. The piece should have 5 sts at end of rnd. DO NOT JOIN. This piece is worked as a spiral, not in concentric rings, so do not join. To keep track of where each rnd ends, slip a stitch marker into the top of the last st of the rnd. Remove the marker from the last st and slip it into the new last st at the end of each rnd.

Rnd 2: Continue to carry CB and the tail. Inc in every st (2 sc in each stitch) with CA. 10 sts.
