Pattern
Granny Square – (Make 40)
Chain 6. Join ch with a sl st, forming a ring.
Round 1: (RS) Ch 3 [counts as 1 tr (dc)] work 15 tr (dc) in ring, join rnd with a sl st in top of beg ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3 [counts as 1 tr (dc)] work 2 tr (dc) in same place as joining, ch 2, skip next st, tr (dc) in next st, ch 2 skip next st, *work 3 tr (dc) in next st, ch 2, skip next st, tr (dc) in next st, ch 2, skip next st; rep from * around twice more, join rnd with a sl st in top of beg ch 3.
Round 3: Ch 3 [counts as 1 tr (dc)], work 5 tr (dc) in next st, *tr (dc) in next st, [ch 2, tr (dc) in next tr (dc)] twice, work 5 tr (dc) in next st; rep from * around twice more, end [tr (dc) in next tr (dc), ch 2] twice, join round with a sl st in top of beg ch 3.
Round 4: Ch 3 [counts as 1 tr (dc)] tr (dc) in first 2 sts, work 5 tr (dc) in next st, tr (dc) in next 3 sts, ch2, tr (dc) in next st, ch 2, tr (dc) in next 3 sts, work 5 tr (dc) in next st; rep from * around twice more, end tr in next 3 sts, ch 2, tr (dc) in last st, ch 2, join rnd with a sl st in top of beg ch 3.
Round 5: Ch 3 [counts as 1 tr (dc)], tr (dc) in next 4 sts, work 5 tr (dc) in next st, * tr (dc) in next 5 sts, ch 2, tr (dc) in next st, ch 2, tr (dc) in next 5 sts work 5, tr (dc) in next st; rep from * around twice more, end tr (dc) in next 5 sts, ch 2, tr (dc) in last st, ch 2, join rnd with a sl st in top of beg ch 3. Fasten off.
Make a further 39 squares. Join squares together with dc, 10 squares long and 4 squares wide.
Finishing
With RS facing, work 3 ch [counts as 1 tr (dc)] then work 1 row tr (dc) around 4 sides of the shawl making 5 tr (dc) into each corner. Join rnd with a sl st in top of beg ch 3. Fasten off.
Make 62 fringe tassels 12.5 cm (5 inches) long and attach to ends of shawl.
