This is a basic introduction to hairpin lace rather than a pattern, feel free to experiment and see what 'shapes' you end up with. It is also is a great way to use up odds and ends.

Materials

Hairpin Lace Staple (Frame)
1 6mm crochet hook
remnants of Artisan Thread uncarded naturally dyed, handspun yarns

Make a loop in your yarn and insert crochet hook into it.
Hold the hook in the centre of the frame and wrap the yarn around the right prong and under the left.
Draw the yarn through the loop with your crochet hook. Remove the crochet hook. Turn the frame to the left. (By turning the frame over you wrap the yarn around the other prong - now on the right again. Put the crochet hook back through the loop, draw the yarn through the loop again. Continue in this manner, turning the frame and working a single crochet until you feel work is long enough for your needs, or you have run out of yarn.

Lei

Take the yarn off the frame and pull the loop to create the lace effect.

You can purchase hairpin staples from many retailers including Undy Yarncrafts or from Stitch Diva.
