Knit a Poppy

Welcome to Issue 6

This issue is full of 'firsts'.

This is the first time we have unveiled our new look patterns. We have been working on these for a while and we absolutely love them.

We are very proud to have the first of our Mirasol columns which will be a regular feature in each issue, keeping us all up to date with the progress of the project. In conjunction with this, we have the first of our exclusive Du Store Alpakka patterns using Mirasol yarns. There will be a pattern in each issue from now on.

We are also delighted to have the first of our bi-annual reports direct from Pitti Filati - one of the world's leading yarn trend fairs. This first report highlights the trends for Autumn/Winter 2009/2010 so we will know what to expect on the shelves at our LYS next year.

This week we attended two new events, the In The Loop conference held at Winchester School of Art, which includes the launch of the Knitting Reference Library which now houses the Jane Waller Archive, alongside the work of Montse Stanley and Richard Rutt.

From there we set off to Dorset in the south of England, to Camp Bestival, which is a new three day music festival, and for the first time, they had a knitting tent, which we were working at alongside Gerard and Craig of I Knit, on their Great British Sheep. You can read more about this in I Knit's column.

We are also delighted to announce that we now have a Crochet Editor. Catherine Wilson, better known as Aruba Blue, will be dealing with developing the crochet side of the magazine, alongside technical editing and your crochet queries.

Charlotte Moon and Lauren McInerney are also joining us during the summer and between college hours as Fashion Stylist and Assistant Photographer respectively.

In addition to the designers and other contributors we would like to thank the following people for their valuable assistance in producing this issue of knitonthenet: Dorothy Crawford - the fastest knitter in the west, June Skelhorn for knitting anything that's thrown at her, Catherine Wilson for staying up very late, crocheting till she couldn't keep her eyes open and supplying chocolates! Danielle Griffiths, Matthew Braithwaite and Vikki Houldcroft for their patience whilst being photographed, and Lauren McInerney for assisting with photography.

Best wishes
Susan & Gavin
