Easyknits
We talk to Jon Dunn of Easyknits about his love of knitting, yarn and colour
Jon caught the knitting 'bug' when his Gran showed him how to 'knit and purl' at the age of 6. The passion resurfaced a few years ago, after meeting other knitting enthusiasts in a Soho pub. Now he spins, dyes and knits his own yarn - he particularly enjoys knitting socks.
Wanting colours that just couldn't be bought, Jon started to experiment dyeing yarn at home, creating unique colour-ways for his own projects. These included colours like popsicle (red, orange and green), pebble splash (orange, brown and baby blue) and swamp-thing (semi-solid greens).
After knitting these yarns into socks and other items, knitting friends asked where he bought the yarn. Intrigued by the combination of colours, and a desire to knit with the yarn too, they suggested that he could sell it. Suddenly, Easyknits was born!
Although Easyknits has only just started, the yarn is now sold in two stores, I Knit London and Great British Yarns. It is also available direct from the Easyknits online shop, which also features Jon's knitting blog. In the future, special edition seasonal colours are planned, as well as merino-bamboo yarn mixes. Jon continues to have a passion for knitting, challenging himself to create and knit more exciting garments, as well as dye exciting new colours.
What Jon forgot to mention is that he is such an enthusiastic knitter that he is one of the wonderful volunteer knitters for A Stitch in Time and another currently top secret project.
