Mimi Cushion

Materials

Lazykate Chunky (bulky) 100% wool handspun (approx 200gm)

1 pair 5mm (US #8) needles (& 1 additional 5mm needle for three needle bind off)
1 5mm crochet hook
1 14 inch (35cm) in length rectangular cushion pad
Finished Dimensions
16 x 10 inches approx (40 x 25 cm)

Tension

10.5 sts to 4 inch (10cm) using 5mm (US #8) needles over stocking stitch.

Pattern

Front

Cast on 40 sts using 5mm (US #)needles.
Commencing with a knit row, work 10 rows in stocking stitch.

**Next row: k8, p24, k8
Next row: p8, k24, p8

Repeat last two rows nine times more
Commencing with a knit row, work 10 rows stocking stitch.
Leave sts on holder.

Back

With RS facing, pick up 40 sts along cast on edge of front using 5mm (US #8)needles.
Commencing with a purl row, work 11 rows in stocking stitch.

Flower trim

(main section)

Cast on 79 sts using 5mm (US #8) needles.
Row 1: purl.
Row 2: k2 *k1 and slip this stitch back on to left hand needle, lift next eight stitches on left hand needle over this stitch and off needle (yfwd) twice, then k the same stitch again, k2, repeat from * to end.
Row 3: k1 * p2tog, (k1, k1tbl) into double yfwd of previous row, p1 rep from * to last stitch, k1. (30 sts)
Row 4: (k1, p1) to end.
Row 5: (k2tog) to end.

Break yarn and thread through remaining 15 sts pull up tight and fasten off. Sew together side edges to form flower.

(Second section)

Cast on 79 sts using 5mm (US #8) needles.

Work first four rows of main section, break yarn and thread through remaining 30 sts., pull up tight and fasten off. Sew together side edges to form flower. Lay second section onto main section and sew together at the centre. Sew to cushion. Make two flowers or as many as required to decorate cushion.

Making up

Darn in all ends. Fold cushion in half lengthwise, right sides together. Place sts from holders onto two 5mm needles, with third 5mm needle cast off together. Sew up one side seam. Turn right side out. Insert cushion pad and sew up second side seam.

Ties

Place a pin approx 3 inches (7cm) from top and bottom of cushion at each end. Using 5mm crochet hook make two 8 inch (20 cm) chains at each pin. Knot end and leave length for fringing. Tie each set of two ties in bow as shown.
