Materials

Rowan Little Big Wool 67% wool/33% nylon (50gm - 66 yards/60 metres approx)
6 x 50gm balls shade 508 - Amber - Main colour (M)
3 x 50gm balls shade 513 - Rock - Contrast colour (C)
1 pair 15mm (US #19) needles
1 pair 10mm (US #15) needles
Cable needle

Tension

6sts = 4 inches (10cm) using 15mm (US #19) needles over stocking stitch

Abbreviations

C6F - place next 3 sts on cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next 3 sts from left hand needle, knit 3 sts from cable needle.
C6B - place next 3 sts on cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 3 sts from left hand needle, knit 3 sts from cable needle.

Front and Back

Use three strands of yarn at one time.
Using 15mm (US #19) needles and M cast on 21sts.
Row 1: P6, K9, P6
Row 2: K6, P9, K6
Row 3: P6, K3, C6F, P6
Row 4: K6, P9, K6
Rows 5 to 10: Rep 1 st and 2 nd rows twice then 3 rd and 4 th rows once.
Rows 11 & 12: as rows 1 and 2
Row 13: P6, C6B, K3, P6
Row 14: K6, P9, K6
Rows 15 to 18: Rep 1 st and 2 nd rows twice.
Rows 19 and 20: as rows 13 and 14

Work these 20 rows once and then rows 1 -12 once more.
Cast off.

Strap

Using 2 strands of yarn C and 10mm (US #15) needles cast on 11sts.
Row 1: P1, K9, P1
Row 2: K1, P9, K1
Continue working 20 rows of pattern as for front but with only 1 edge stitch instead of 6.
Continue until strap measures 58 inches (147 cm) ending with row 2.
Cast off.

Making up

Darn in all ends. Pin strap to front and back. Sew in place with seam exposed.
At bottom edge of bag fold strap inwards and pin with bottom seam of bag. Sew in place.
