The Children's Society Big Stitch appeal
knitting a world record for childhood.
We need your help to beat the Guinness Book of World Records for the World's largest knitted Christmas Stocking.
We have received over 7,000 knitted squares from our supporters, (including their sponsorship money) and we really need your help to sew them together. The stocking will measure 21 metres from top to heel and 10 metres from heel to toe. That's one and a half double Decker buses! It will then be half filled with presents, which will be distributed amongst the Children's Society children in our projects, in time for Christmas.
You can help in two ways:
Firstly, we are holding sewing workshops at our head office location in Margery Street, Islington on December 1,7,10,11,12,13,14 from 9.30am until 7.15pm. Please come along for as long as you can spare, even if it's only for 1/2 an hour, and bring your own darning needle and some red wool, if possible.
Secondly, if you can't make it into our office, then I can send you some squares to sew together at your leisure.
We are asking for the squares to be sewn together 7 wide and 10 long, to make a single duvet size strip. We will then sew the strips together to make the stocking in 4 pieces.
As well as helping us to smash a world record, your help will enable us to continue to provide vital support for children in your area who face the greatest danger, discrimination or disadvantage in their daily lives.
