Day in the life of Purlesque

The girls from Purlesque, introduce us to their 'knitting heaven'.

Purlesque Welcome to the very first Purlesque blog! For those who don't yet know about us, Purlesque is a little knitting heaven tucked away in Grand Central Hall on Renshaw Street in Liverpool (opposite Lewis's). We stock yarns by Debbie Bliss, Louisa Harding and Noro, along with a wide range of buttons, ribbons and hand-made gifts. Definitely not a traditional yarn shop!

Christmas is coming and I'm sure you're like us, knitting festive treats for your friends and family. We've been busy knitting beautiful gifts for the shop to add a bit of warmth and colour to those cold winter nights, such as our crochet hats and knitted gloves made with divine Noro Kureyon and Silk Garden. Noro is particularly inspiring; the intense colours that change throughout the yarn can turn a simple project into something really special.

New for winter 2007 are our gorgeous Pom-Pom scarves made with XL Multicolour from Rooster. They're so soft and cosy, adding a bit of that 1940s glamour to a plain jacket. If you fancy trying your hand at making one, don't forget to send a pom-pom to Amy Lame for her 'Pom-Pom for Peace' www.pompominternational.com. We loved her workshop at last month's UK Stitch 'n' Bitch event; it was great to see so many people having fun with pom-poms! Congratulations to I Knit London and the other organisers for such a wonderful day.

Finally, we hope you can join us at our knitting circle at the Belvedere Pub, just off Falkner Street in Liverpool, on Tuesday evenings from six. It's a friendly group in a great little pub, lovely and warm by the fire!

Happy knitting!

What's hot in the Shop

Back by demand - Our knitted tea-cosies are back, we couldn't knit them fast enough! Why not impress your friends by serving tea (or why not Rosé) from your fabulously dressed teapot. For the real domestic goddess look don't forget one of our sexy aprons, featuring cheeky cross-stitch!

A few of our favourite things

We can't stop stroking our Debbie Bliss Silk Aran. Its deep rich colours and soft luxurious feel make it simply irresistible. 80% baby alpaca and 20% silk make this a beautifully soft yarn. Treat yourself to a little ball of luxury!

For autumnal sumptuousness, Noro Cash Island Colour 8 is 60% wool, 30% cashmere and 10% nylon - and it feels like heaven with lush shades of green with hints of brown and purple. This would be great for a cosy pair of socks or a toasty-warm hat and scarf. Perfect camouflage for a walk through the park!

Sparkle with festive glamour when you knit a shawl using Louisa Harding Castello. It looks pretty unusual when just a ball, but knitted up it's a glitzy showpiece for your Christmas party outfit. Add the finishing touches with one of our crochet brooches.
