Design Submissions

Knitonthenet is now welcoming design submissions for 2008.

We are very pleased to be able to now offer payment for designs accepted for publication. Payment will be determined depending on a number of factors. Payment will be made via paypal and we will continue to provide an advertising link from your pattern page to your chosen website.

We are accepting both knitting and crochet designs with a maximum of 2 or 3 crochet patterns in any one issue.

You, the designer, retain copyright of your pattern but agree to knitonthenet having exclusive rights to use your pattern in all formats in perpetuity.

We cannot accept designs which have been shown elsewhere, even on your own blog or Ravelry. Once your design has gone 'live' you may promote it on your own blog or website and link it to the knitonthenet site. We can provide you with photos from the magazine for this purpose.

Yarn support can be provided and this can be discussed once your initial proposal has been accepted.

How to submit

Please note: it is not necessary at the initial submission stage to have a completed pattern or garment, however we will consider all submissions.

In the first instance send sketches, schematics if available, good scans/photos of swatches and clear description of design to submissions@knitonthenet.com

Also provide some background information about yourself and your design ethos. Please accompany this with images of previous designs if available.

We will contact you shortly after submission deadline whether you are successful or not. If successful, we will also send a pattern template for you to follow, and yarn support may also be available.

Knitonthenet likes to photograph all designs where practicable so you will need to send your project to us in good time. The address for sending completed projects to will be sent by email with your submission acceptance.

To help designers gauge what we are looking for in each issue we will release submission ideas at least one issue in advance. However do take a look through previous issues to get an idea of our style. We like a good mixture of easier and more complex projects, garments and other items. If you are new to pattern writing we can also help you with this.

Our ethos

We are looking for tradition with a twist, using colour (both fairisle and intarsia), texture, lace. Projects with interesting or unusual construction. Different techniques, projects incorporating felting, crochet, sewing and embroidery introducing readers to new skills.

Issue Themes

Summer 2008

Music festival - Think 1970s, Isle of Wight Festival, Summer of Love, Glastonbury, Woodstock. A natural colour palette or bold stripes and pattern.

This is only a guide. If you have other ideas that don't fit with these themes do submit them anyway.

Article Submissions

If you wish to submit an article to knitonthenet please send an email outlining your idea and also some information about yourself and any connection you may have to the article you are planning to write. There are no minimum number of words, but as the internet is a visual medium we do require images to support any article submitted.

We will let you know by email as soon as possible, if we wish to use your article or not. If your article is accepted there will be an attachment with our email advising you of layout and technical requirements etc. We will also advise you of a deadline for the completed article to be received by ourselves. Please read and follow these instructions carefully.

News Submissions

We can receive and accept news submissions at any time. If you have a specific event that you wish to tell us about please initially send an email to editor@knitonthenet.com with relevant information and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We cannot guarantee that we can use all news items.

All submissions are subject to final approval and knitonthenet reserve the right to decline a submission at any point if necessary.
