Eliza scarf

Materials

182g of Lazykate 100% wool handspun
1 ball spare yarn for petals

Needles

1 pair 7mm (US #10.5)

 

Pattern

Scarf

Cast on 14 sts using 7mm (US #10.5) needles.

Row 1 (RS): k2 *yfwd, k2tog, k1 rep from * to end.
Row 2: Purl.
These two rows form the pattern.
Continue with these two rows until work measures 60ins (152cm).

Flowers (make two)

Cast on 5 sts using 7mm (US #10.5) needles.

Work in garter stitch (every row knit) for 2.5ins (5cm).

Cut yarn and leave stitches on needle. On same needle cast on 5 st and work as before to make another strip. Continue like this until 5 strips are made.

To join petals (strips)

Cast on 1 st., knit 5 sts from first petal, bend strip in half and pick up & knit 5 sts from cast on edge of same strip. Repeat until all petals are joined together in this way, cast on 1 st at end of row. (52 sts)

Next row: * k2tog, rep from * to end of row. (26 sts)
Next row: K1 * k2tog, rep from * to last st., k1. (14 sts)
Next 2 rows: Knit.
Next row: Purl
Next row: Knit
Next row: p1, p2tog across row to last stitch, p1. (8 sts)

Pass 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th & 8th stitch over 1st stitch.
Thread yarn through last loop and fasten off.

Stems (make four)

Cast on 30 sts and cast off purlwise.

Flower centres (make two)

Take some left over handspun and roll into a ball. It should be approximately the size to fit in your flower, but slightly bigger. Dip into warm, soapy water, and roll between the palms of your hands. Repeat and keep rolling until the ball becomes tight and felted.

Making up

Darn in all ends. Gather each end of the scarf. Sew a felt centre and two stems to each flower, then attach a flower to each end of the scarf.
