Hello everyone,

Until fairly recently I wasn't sure whether we would get to this point again of actually welcoming in a new issue of knitonthenet. The last few months have been traumatic and unsure for us here and taking the decision recently to explain the circumstances we have been dealing with produced an incredible supportive response from so many of you - many of whom have gone through similar problems in the last difficult twelve months - and it is that response that really helped us keep going and we will always be grateful for that.

The decision to speak out taught us a very good lesson - communicate! Sometimes, due to all manner of reasons, we haven't been that good at communicating but over recent weeks that has begun to change with more frequent newsletters to registered readers and the blog now being updated every few days. Our Editorial Assistant, Ingrid, prepares most of the content for the blog and is doing a great job writing fascinating posts, so if you get the opportunity do have a read. You can find the blog at www.knitonthenet.blogspot.com

To survive, the magazine needs to move forwards and there will be changes over the next year moving towards a new, hopefully, sustainable publishing model. Our new style cover is the first step in the changes and we do hope you like the new format. We are still working on exactly how the magazine will evolve but we will keep you informed of developments as they happen over the next few months. This issue of the magazine itself will continue to have content added over the next few weeks so do keep popping back if you can. We have added an 'About us' which will live on the features page which tells you a little bit more about each of us involved in the magazine and how you can contact us. The Submissions and How to advertise pages will be updated very shortly as will the Yarn Reviews.

The lovely Rachael Matthews from Prick Your Finger joins us for the first time in an article about her latest installation "Murder at the Wool hall" which is part of the "Louder Than Bombs" exhibition. Ingrid takes a good look at the Winchester Knitting Reference Library and the lady behind it! and we have a great Give Away courtesy of David & Charles publishers. We also meet indie dyer Babylonglegs whose beautiful yarn inspired me to design Evangeline for this issue.

I love the patterns we have for you in this issue, filling the gap between cold and warm days with cloche hats, slouchy berets and fingerless gloves through to a spring cardigan and the ultimate wrap jacket. My particular favourites are the 'snowflake' shawl knit in thick but extraordinarily light wool offering a 'quick knit lace' pattern for those of us who love shawl and lace knitting but don't always have the time and the 'Posy of Violets' brooch - a brilliant way of using up the tiniest amounts of yarn - another gem from the lovely Theodora.

We are joined by four new designer for knitonthenet - Derya Davenport, Katya Frankel, Susanna IC and Linda Wilgus - and we thank them and the other designers for their patience whilst waiting for their patterns to appear.

It has been a busy time in other ways at Arbour House - Woolly Wormhead's latest book, Twisted Woolly Toppers is due out in a few days time - and you can read all about it on our book reviews page and even follow her blog tour which started yesterday on my blog at www.justcallmeruby.blogspot.com. My own pattern booklet Vintage Gifts to Knit is in the final stages of production and next week - 27th and 28th March - you will find us hosting the Make, Do and Knit knitting and making fair at Bluecoat School, Wavertree, Liverpool. You can read more about the event here. Do come and say hello to us if you are attending the show.

We really hope you enjoy this issue of knitonthenet and thank you once again for waiting.

Best wishes
Susan, Gavin & Ingrid
