Susan Crawford

Susan Crawford

Editor, Commissioning Editor, Writer, Designer, Stylist and Photographer

Susan puts each issue of the magazine together, deciding on the theme and the overall look and commissioning the designs and articles. She edits and prepares all content and passes it on to Gavin. Susan also writes for the magazine as well as designing usually under the name, Just call me Ruby, but sometimes as Susan Crawford or even in the early days as knitonthenet. She is responsible for styling, hair and make up and is principle photographer on the photoshoots. She also deals with most of the advertising enquiries and the bit she really doesn't like, the admin and accounts! Susan is also Commissioning and Creative Editor for Arbour House Publishing and she is currently working with several authors bringing their book projects to fruition.

Susan studied Fashion and Textiles followed by a City & Guilds in Creative Studies (hand knitting) and finally qualified as a lecturer a few years ago. Disappointed in the way craft was being taught in higher education she left teaching to found knitonthenet and concentrate on her designing and writing. She co-authored A Stitch in Time, Vintage Knitting & Crochet Patterns, 1920-1949: Vol 1, and is currently working on a number of other book projects including A Stitch In Time - Volume 2, Vintage Gifts to Knit and Vintage Shetland. You can read more about these projects in future issues of knitonthenet and on Susan's blog, justcallmeruby.blogspot.com. She has recently started designing and writing for The Knitter and Knitting and has had work published in these, plus Yarn Forward, Selvedge and Knitty.

Susan other passions include cooking, reading, sewing, fashion and particularly film, especially when combined with knitting.
