18sts = 10cm (4 inches) using 5mm (US #8)needles over garter stitch.
Pattern Notes
The hat is knitted flat from the crown down in one piece in garter stitch (every row knit), then in rounds for the brim. It only takes 2 balls of DK yarn, so is perfect for using up your stash.
Abbreviations
yo - Yarn over. Carry yarn over needle, then work next stitch. This leaves a strand over the needle that you pattern into on the next row, creating a decorative eyelet and an increase.
DPN - double pointed needles.
